Lord Mayor Georg-Berndt Oschatz
On September 9, 1982, Lord Mayor Georg-Berndt Oschatz signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
Georg-Berndt Oschatz was born in Zwickau on April 5, 1937.
While studying law, he joined the CDU in 1963. After his second state examination in law, he took up a position in the higher general administrative service of the state of Lower Saxony in 1966. In 1968, he became the personal assistant to Lower Saxony's Minister of Culture, Richard Langeheine.
After two years as head of the scientific service of the CDU parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament, he joined the Hanover City Council and the Lower Saxony state parliament for two years each.
In 1976, he was appointed Lord Mayor of Hildesheim for four years and was elected Lord Mayor of Wiesbaden in 1980. He held this office for two years before returning to Lower Saxony as State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior.
Under Minister President Ernst Albrecht, he served as Lower Saxony's Minister of Culture until 1987. After leaving the state government, he worked as Director of the Bundesrat until his retirement in April 2002.
The Wiesbaden City Council honored Oschatz with an entry in the city's Golden Book after he left office as Lord Mayor on 9 September 1982.
