Afternoon weekly market on Luisenplatz has started its new season
The afternoon weekly market on Luisenplatz started its new season on Thursday, February 6. It has been complementing the traditional weekly market on the Dern site since September 2024.
The opening hours between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. allow citizens to do their weekly market shopping in the afternoon. After the winter break, the afternoon weekly market will continue until August 31.
"I am delighted that the market was so well received by customers last fall. Initiated by Wiesbaden's city management, it also revitalizes our city centre and offers a good opportunity to support regional producers and buy high-quality, seasonal products directly from the producer," says Mayor Christiane Hinninger.
"At the start of the new season, I am very confident that the afternoon weekly market will continue to establish itself as a popular offer for market visitors," says the Head of Economic and Environmental Affairs.
Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende and professional chef and YouTuber Bernd Zehner sold currywurst with jointly created sauce for a good cause at the street food cart of Wiesbadener Kochwerkstatt. Singer and guitarist Carlos G. played acoustic versions of rock and pop classics.
"I am delighted that I was able to support the fundraising campaign at the reopening of the afternoon market together with Bernd Zehner and his Kochwerkstatt. All proceeds from the sale of the Wiesbaden sausage will go to the private homeless charity in Wiesbaden, which regularly serves food to the homeless on Luisenplatz," says Lord Mayor Mende.
"A few days ago, Bernd Zehner invited me to cook a curry sauce as a test - that was a lot of fun. Now we're looking forward to many guests trying our currywurst on Luisenplatz."
A total of eleven vendors offer their wide range of seasonal and regional products at the weekly afternoon market, primarily organic producers and local producers.
"It is very important to us to have a lively exchange with all the vendors in order to continue to guarantee and expand the attractiveness of the weekly afternoon market," says Simon Rottloff, authorized signatory and outdoor manager at WICM.
"We are delighted to welcome two new local producers for the new season, who are expanding the range of regional specialties: the 'Käsereich' from Mainz with various cheese specialties, cheese platters and cheese spaetzle, and the KIT-Hofgut from Schierstein, which offers honey, jams, jellies from its own production, liqueurs and wine, olive oil, mustard and vegan pastes."
