Traudes, son of Willi Traudes, who was also successful in cycling, began cycling in 1930 in the junior competition of the German road championships. At the age of 13, he joined the Wiesbadener Radsportclub 1907. He competed in around 1,500 races and had many successes as a road and track cyclist. Particularly noteworthy is his third place in the German team championships in 1949 together with Wim Grünewald, Valentin Petry, Peter Gilsdorf and Franz Reitz. In the same year, he topped the ranking list of Hessian road cyclists.
Due to injuries following a serious fall in the Frankfurt Festhalle, he had to take a ten-year break from competitive cycling from 1953. As a senior, he then took part in numerous competitions again, e.g. the annual World Cup in St. Johann (Austria).
Traudes worked for the Wiesbaden city administration from 1945 until his retirement in 1981. In addition to his active sporting career, Traudes was characterized by his commitment to numerous clubs and offices. In cycling, he was involved in both the Radsportclub 1907 (RC 07) and the Radsportgemeinschaft Wiesbaden.
He received numerous awards for his wide-ranging commitment, including the Golden Pin of the Hessian Cycling Association, the Merit Pin of the Association of German Cyclists, the Letter of Honor of the State Sports Association and the Citizens' Medal of the City of Wiesbaden.
