Mission statement of the Cultural Office
The Wiesbaden Cultural Office is a core office of the municipality. Precisely because cultural expenditure is largely voluntary, this is where the municipality shows its special profile. In its services of basic cultural provision and "lighthouses", the Cultural Office offers citizens scope for creativity and identification.
The Cultural Office provides basic creative and idealistic services for citizens. Its employees strive to take up and popularize traditional and innovative tendencies in dealing with culture in equal measure. This represents a particular challenge for all those involved.
The Cultural Office networks the services of the following departments
- Cultural promotion
- City library with the music library, the district libraries and the mobile library
- Fine arts with Artothek and Kunsthaus
- Wiesbaden Music Academy
- District culture, European Youth Circus, "Wiesbaden tanzt" and other theater and music projects
- City archive
- Municipal film work, Caligari FilmBühne and German
- Television Crime Award
- Villa Clementine House of Literature
Despite all their differences, the employees of the Cultural Office recognize a common set of values
- The cultural tasks of a municipality require innovative, well-trained and politically aware cultural experts. They strive to constantly expand their specialist knowledge. The quality of our products is characterized by a high level of professional competence and personal commitment. This quality must be continuously guaranteed.
- The Cultural Office is a network: internally and externally. Transparency of action and coordination of those involved for the common product have top priority. Everyone is competent and effective in their areas. Our team spirit leads to success, also and especially in external cooperation.
- Creativity, innovative ability and flexibility of the cultural experts are encouraged and demanded. Everyone should contribute their individual strengths to their areas of work.
- Promoting the motivation of employees is a management task. Where work is no longer fun in the long term, countermeasures must be taken. This naturally takes place with the participation of all employees.
- All administrative actions are carried out strictly within the budget. However competent and creative the employees may be, they fulfill their tasks in accordance with the guidelines set by the City Council, the municipal council, the department and the office management. This feedback also serves our own security. Effectiveness, efficiency and economy in the use of resources apply to everyone and in all areas.
The citizens and guests of the city are partners and clients
We strive to ensure that citizens identify with our city and that it is equally attractive for our guests: by guaranteeing democratic access to cultural offerings, including for the socially disadvantaged, by providing the necessary infrastructure and by clearly focusing on events that make Wiesbaden more attractive, not least as a business location.
The cultural office is a network for all
- It goes without saying that the same respect and fairness that we maintain in our dealings with each other is also shown to all other people in our city.
- We also mediate and facilitate contact between creative artists and other institutions. This applies to the promotion of individual artists as well as initiatives and groups. In order to be able to fulfill our task satisfactorily, we keep up to date with funding opportunities and local developments.
- We have a special obligation to the next generation. Children and young people have considerable creative potential, and it is our job to help them develop it. If we support our young people culturally, we are investing in the future of us all. We also have a special obligation to senior citizens. Intergenerational projects deserve our dedicated attention and support.
- The employees of the Cultural Office do not tolerate discrimination in any form whatsoever. Cultural work is always aimed at people of all nationalities. Intercultural competence is therefore a self-evident maxim of our work. Special attention is paid to the needs of the disabled.
- Our services and products enhance Wiesbaden's market value and increase the attractiveness of its location factors. The business community is our partner in this. Our goal is to gain more of them as sponsors. Our products are to be considered in terms of their marketing value.
