Veterinary and Consumer Protection Office

Food monitoring and food hygiene:

Our food inspectors ensure compliance with food law requirements in around 3,000 businesses, as well as at events and markets. We also process consumer complaints in connection with food.

Animal welfare, animal health and animal disease control:

We are responsible for ensuring compliance with the requirements on farms and in all private livestock farms within the LHW, the requirements under animal disease legislation, processing applications for a permit under Section 11 TierSchG and the Animal Welfare Transport Ordinance and monitoring veterinary medicines.
We accept reports of violations of animal welfare or animal disease legislation.

Slaughter animal and meat hygiene:

As part of food monitoring, we carry out inspections during slaughtering and during the production of game meat.
If we discover violations through our activities, we prosecute them in fine or criminal proceedings. Significant violations in food monitoring are published in the consumer window.
