Johann Strauss Orchestra
In 1988, conductor and violinist Herbert Siebert founded the Johann Strauss Orchestra, in which renowned musicians from symphony orchestras perform in changing line-ups. In addition to the classical Viennese ball music of the Strauss dynasty, the repertoire also includes evergreens by Glenn Miller, George Gershwin and James Last as well as various forms of dance music such as tango and foxtrot. Popular big band pieces and well-known melodies from operettas and musicals can also be found in the varied program, which is performed once a month in the foyer of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden by the 60-piece orchestra. The orchestra's performances are regularly accompanied by internationally renowned musicians such as the Swiss soprano Claudia Grundmann.
In addition to the ball orchestra, the orchestra also performs as a smaller ensemble in changing line-ups and has made a name for itself with traditional Viennese table music, popular pieces by Mozart, Boccherini or Haydn and light music by Jacques Offenbach, Johann Schrammel or Franz Lehár.
