Regional gastronomy

Social commitment and sustainable management are part of the basic understanding of Wiesbaden's restaurateurs in dealing with natural resources.

Digital gastro guide for Wiesbaden

The online gastro guide "Yummy" makes it very easy to find the right restaurant in Wiesbaden. Regional restaurants can also be found here.

Hesse à la carte

The lovingly and generously renovated barn of the historic Domäne Mechtildshausen is worth seeing in itself and provides the perfect setting for the presentation and sale of the farm's own products. The farm's own organic products are fresh and of high quality in the farm store.

In addition to the market hall, Domäne Mechtildshausen has its own catering business, where cooking and restaurant skills are taught under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Attention is paid to seasonal products and their holistic processing and the highest value is placed on freshness, quality, regionality and sustainability in production. The philosophy "From the field to the table" can be felt everywhere here. Fruit and vegetables are sourced fresh daily from our own market garden and the species-appropriate rearing of the animals is a matter close to our hearts. The raw products are processed and refined according to the best artisan traditions in the farm's own restaurant, bakery, confectionery, butcher's shop and dairy. The entire farming, animal husbandry and food production is certified organic.

Hessian cuisine is regional, traditional, innovative, original and sustainable. According to these criteria, members are certified with "Hessen à la carte" every three years based on a 10-point criteria catalog.

In 2021, Domäne Mechtildshausen received the "Hessen à la carte" award - in the form of three "lions" and the red and white Hessen à la carte sign.

Forsthaus Rheinblick also focuses on quality and regionality and was awarded (opens in a new tab)"Hessen à la carte" in 2021. On the outskirts of Wiesbaden, surrounded by a sparse forest, guests can indulge in regional delicacies and warm hospitality. The restaurant, the festive fireplace room, the tranquil Försterstüberl and the large terrace on the edge of the forest are available for this purpose. Experience Hessen à la carte!

Wine enjoyment above the rooftops of Wiesbaden

Viticulture on the Neroberg
Viticulture on the Neroberg

The vineyard in the middle of Wiesbaden - the Neroberg - is cultivated by the Eberbach monastery. Only the well-known Riesling grape variety is cultivated on the almost 4-hectare steep slope. The operator attaches great importance to keeping the vines healthy, using organic pest control and avoiding the use of insecticides.

In collaboration with Geisenheim University, Kloster Eberbach is working on the project "BioQuiS: Promotion of biodiversity through cross-vegetation on steep slopes" and is developing further measures for sustainable cultivation (e.g. application of pesticides using drones and optimized irrigation control in vineyards with low water storage capacity).

The company also attaches great importance to social commitment and sustainable management outside of viticulture. Issues such as the use of green electricity, a steadily increasing proportion of lightweight glass bottles to reduce CO2 emissions and an emphasis on moderate alcohol consumption are an integral part of the corporate philosophy.

Château Nero in the Neroberg

The "Château Nero" wine stand is located above the vines on the Neroberg. In summer, guests can taste the quality of the wine while enjoying a magnificent view over the city of Wiesbaden.
