School social work youth
School social work in Wiesbaden has been part of the city's youth welfare services since 1977. Since 1993, it has been combined as an independent field of youth welfare in the School Social Work Department of the Office for Social Work.
The legal basis for school social work is the German Child and Youth Welfare Act (Social Code VIII), in particular Section 13 Youth Social Work. School social work is a preventative and compensatory youth welfare service. The services are closely linked to other areas of the Office for Social Work through cooperation agreements and procedural regulations.
As a youth welfare service, school social work has the following orientation:
The socio-educational services offered by school social work are aimed at pupils in Wiesbaden who are in greater need of help to compensate for social disadvantage or to overcome individual impairments and who, in some cases, will only achieve a school-leaving certificate and a qualifying transition to working life with this support. School social work is primarily set up at schools and in districts with special social needs. It reaches almost 100 percent of all predicted special and lower secondary school leavers at two special schools, three lower and intermediate secondary schools, one middle school and seven integrated comprehensive schools. In addition, pupils at the five vocational schools in Wiesbaden are supported in their vocational preparation by the school social work coordination office in the transition from school to work.
