Smouldering fire in Röderstraße: fire department in action

A smouldering fire in an apartment building in Röderstraße kept the fire department busy for over two hours today, Sunday. The half-timbered house affected was considerably damaged by the fire.

The emergency services were alerted at around 11.30 a.m. after a neighbor noticed flames and smoke coming from the front of a house. When they arrived, the fire department discovered that a wall had to be opened in order to locate the source of the fire. This revealed that there was a swelling fire inside the wall that had probably been going on for some time. Some beams of the half-timbered wall had already been completely burnt away.

As it could not be ruled out that smoke and fumes had spread into the adjoining apartments, the building was evacuated by the emergency services, checked and smoke was extracted where necessary. All residents were seen by the emergency services. The emergency services were able to prevent the fire from spreading further.

The operation caused considerable traffic disruption in Taunusstraße and Röderstraße. The cause of the fire is still unclear and is being investigated by the relevant authorities. The fire department was busy extinguishing the fire until the early afternoon hours to ensure that no embers remained.

Firefighters from Fire Station 1 were deployed, supported by the City Center Volunteer Fire Department. A total of 40 fire and rescue service personnel were on site. In order to ensure basic protection in the city center, the orphaned Fire Station 1 was manned by personnel from the Sonnenberg Volunteer Fire Department.
