Wiesbaden Phantoms

The American football team was initially founded in 1984 as a student section of the North Wiesbaden Football Club. Manfred Brand and Andreas Häuser are considered the founding fathers. After their second season, the footballers became independent in 1986 and from then on called themselves "American Football Club Wiesbaden e.V." The club's home field is located at the former Camp Lindsey, today's Europaviertel.

The Wiesbaden Phantoms have around 500 members, of which around 350 are active players - the squad of a team consists of 45 to 55 men. 95% of the players are from Wiesbaden, the American influence is surprisingly small. In addition to the men's team, one junior team and four youth teams take part in the game.

There are also 70 girls and young women on the two "cheerleading teams", which also hold their own championships: cheerleading is a sport in its own right, a mixture of acrobatics and dance.

In 1999, the team won the championship in the national league, followed a year later by the premier league. In 2003, the team made it into the second division.
