Spa buses, blue

On May 24, 1913, the Wiesbadener Auto-Omnibus-Gesellschaft mbH "Blaue Kurautobusse", the oldest German company for excursions and social trips, was founded at the suggestion of municipal building officer Bruno Berlit. With two Mercedes-Benz coaches, the company began operating services to the Taunus spas of Langenschwalbach (Bad Schwalbach from 1927) and Schlangenbad.

The positive development ended with the First World War and all vehicles were taken over by the army. Immediately after the end of the war, travel was resumed with two new coaches, although operations were severely restricted by the French occupation. It was not until 1924 that things returned to normal. However, the regular trips to Schlangenbad and Bad Schwalbach ended in 1930 after the town sold the concession to the Reichspost. In the 1930s, the company managed to compensate for the loss of regular services by offering long-distance travel. The company built up an entire network of travel agencies in Germany, and even had booking offices in Denmark, England and the Netherlands. The Second World War meant another decline for the company, the buses were requisitioned and the halls and workshops of the Kurautobuses were completely destroyed in a bombing raid.

In 1949, a modest new start was made with excursions to the surrounding area. In the following years, 18 new Mercedes-Benz buses were purchased and the "Blue" tour program was expanded in the course of the "economic miracle" at the beginning of the 1950s. From 1952/53, trips to neighboring countries were possible again. Switzerland, Italy and Austria, and later France and Spain were now on the program. In 1954, Stadtwerke Wiesbaden AG took over all the shares of the city and the other shareholders. From 1973, study trips were organized and luxury coaches were purchased. However, competition soon became so fierce that the long-distance, local and excursion services of the Kurautobuses had to be discontinued. The successor company "Wiesbaden Tours International Blaue Kurautobusse GmbH" was deleted from the commercial register on 23.03.2012.
