Federal President Prof. Dr. Roman Herzog
On May 3, 1995, Federal President Prof. Dr. Roman Herzog signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
Roman Herzog was born in Landshut on April 5, 1934.
After studying law at the University of Munich, he habilitated and taught there as a private lecturer until 1965. He then took up a position as a full professor at the Free University of Berlin before moving to the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer in 1969, which he headed as Rector between 1971 and 1972.
After joining the CDU, he was Secretary of State in Rhineland-Palatinate under Minister Presidents Helmut Kohl and Bernhard Vogel from 1973.
Between 1978 and 1983, he served first as Minister of Culture and later as Minister of the Interior in Baden-Württemberg. In the same year, he moved from Stuttgart to Karlsruhe, where he worked as a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court until 1994, serving as its President from 1987 until his retirement.
On May 23, 1994, Prof. Dr. Roman Herzog was elected by the Federal Assembly as the seventh President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Like his predecessors, he also made a stop in Wiesbaden during his inaugural visit to Hesse.
In the presence of Lord Mayor Achim Exner and Prime Minister Hans Eichel, Prof. Dr. Herzog signed the city's Golden Book in the ballroom of the town hall on May 3, 1995.
