The Road Traffic and City Police Department is responsible for maintaining public safety and order in the area of traffic as well as in other municipal police areas.

The road traffic authority lays down regulations for the use of public roads, paths and squares in accordance with the StVO. It decides on exemptions in accordance with the StVO and special uses.
The City Police - Traffic monitors compliance with traffic regulations and ensures road safety. It is primarily responsible for maintaining and controlling traffic in the event of special incidents, e.g. major events or the failure of traffic facilities such as the Salzbachtal bridge or traffic lights.
The municipal police - hazard prevention monitors compliance with the hazard prevention ordinance and all other matters relating to public safety and order.
The warning and fines office ensures that offenses are punished.
All departments are supported in the performance of their duties by the employees of the Staff Unit and Central Services.
