Hessian riot police headquarters

The Hessian riot police headquarters and the 1st riot police division are based in Mainz-Kastel in the "Mudra Barracks", named after the Prussian General Bruno von Mudra (1851-1931). Built in 1906-08, the pioneer barracks served as emergency accommodation for displaced persons, bombed-out persons and various companies after the Second World War.

In 1951, the federal state of Hesse provided for the formation of a Hessian riot police force with a directorate in Wiesbaden. This was given the task of maintaining internal security and order as well as training officers. The Mudra barracks initially became the headquarters of the directorate in 1951, which returned to the last remaining building of the Mudra barracks in 1997 after an interlude at Bismarckring and the Hessian Ministry of the Interior. In the mid-1950s and 1962, respectively, the hundredths were relocated from Hofgeismar to the Mudra barracks. In 1962, another police unit was added, followed by the Hessian Police Band in 1955. New buildings and renovations after 1987 created a modern, functional department.

Since 2001, the directorate has been known as the Hessian Riot Police Headquarters (HBPP). In addition to the four departments with their operational units (EE), evidence recovery and arrest units (BFE), the technical operational unit (TEE) and training areas, the water police (WSP) as a department with the WSP stations, WSP posts and the central investigation group as well as the police aviation squadron (PFLSt) in Egelsbach are affiliated to it. The Hesse State Police Orchestra (LPO) is also part of the Hesse Riot Police Headquarters in Mainz-Kastel.
