Hahn, Wilhelm

Hahn, Wilhelm

Protestant pastor

Born: 21.03.1882 in Bechlingen (Wetzlar district)

died: 01.10.1957 in Wiesbaden

Hahn studied theology in Greifswald, Halle and Marburg. He initially studied with more conservative teachers, but their "biblicism did not touch me". It was only in Halle and above all with Wilhelm Herrmann (1846-1922) in Marburg that Hahn found the theological orientation he longed for, which made him a "liberal" throughout his life. He attended the Herborn seminary in 1905/06 and passed his final examination in Wiesbaden in 1908. After his military service in Giessen, his vicariate took him to Hahnstätten, Holzhausen an der Haide and Weilburg as well as to the Paulinenstift in Wiesbaden. In 1910, he was an assistant preacher at the Ringkirche in Wiesbaden and worked here as a pastor from 1928.

During the church struggle, Hahn became a representative of the Brotherhood Council of the Confessing Church and, after the end of the war, provisional dean of the Wiesbaden deanery. The constituent synod from September 30 to October 1, 1947 in Friedrichsdorf decided to merge the Protestant churches in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) and elected Martin Niemöller as church president. Hahn became his deputy; the synod confirmed him in this position in 1950. He was retired on 30.06.1952. Hahn had already been a member of Nassau's constituent synod in 1922 and was a member of the synod for Nassau until 1932.
