Women's representative, municipal

In 1985, the city council of the state capital of Wiesbaden established the Department of Municipal Women's Representatives in Wiesbaden with the task of contributing to the realization of the constitutional requirement of equal rights at the municipal level. It was also tasked with coordinating the numerous women's projects and associations as well as conducting studies on the situation of women in Wiesbaden. As a cross-sectional office, it reports directly to the Lord Mayor and can therefore have an impact on all administrative areas.

The first Women's Representative was Margot Brunner (term of office 1986-2000), followed by Susanne Ahlers (2001-02), Sigrun Wolf (acting 2002-03), Brigitta Trutzel (2003-07) and Saskia Veit-Prang (since 2007).

Since 1994, the Hessian Equal Rights Act has legally stipulated the promotion of women in the administration. For this purpose, an internal women's representative was appointed for the city administration, who is assigned to the personnel department (Sigrun Wolf, 1993-2008, Bärbel Scheid, since 2008), and further internal women's representatives for the fire department, spa facilities and waste disposal companies. The department of the municipal women's representative developed into a department with far-reaching authority.
