Since 1991, the state capital of Wiesbaden has practiced a sponsorship model for historic gravesites. These are gravesites that are under monument protection and whose right of use has expired. When a sponsorship contract is concluded, the tomb and the structural installations become the property of the sponsor. This allows maintenance work to be registered for tax purposes. If the sponsor acquires the right to use the gravesite, the fee is reduced by 25 to 50 percent depending on the size of the grave.
