Guidelines for the design of special uses in public spaces

Public space is for the common use of all. In city centers in particular, its design and usability is influenced by private and commercial interests.

However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that public spaces are being overloaded by the growing number of merchandise displays, advertising stands and restaurant furniture and are therefore often devalued in terms of quality.

The aim of this guideline is to bring the design quality of central public spaces back into line with the significance of the established cityscape. The appearance of the city center should reflect the character of the place as the center of urban society as well as the historical and functional center of the city.
