Department VII - Department for Smart City, Europe and Order

Office for Statistics and Urban Research

The Wiesbaden Office for Statistics and Urban Research is committed to modern data analysis and contemporary urban research. We are part of Germany's first Smart City Department and therefore strive to combine urban research and digitalization in a forward-looking way. It is divided into the following departments

  • Statistics & Open Data
As the city's central information service provider, the department supports administration and politics in their planning and decision-making tasks. Statistical data on (almost) all areas of life are organized here and also made available to the public.
    Statistics

The department also plays a key role in developing the open data strategy of the state capital of Wiesbaden. Open data includes the provision of municipal data in human- and machine-readable form in compliance with data protection regulations. Through public and free access, this offers many advantages for the population, the economy, the press and science and thus enables an increase in effectiveness for many processes within the entire city administration.
  • Urban research & surveys
This department focuses on the interdisciplinary analysis of urban structures and their development. Surveys, cartography and other research methods are used to supplement the statistical sources available in the office with additional information and assessments. In this way, potential needs for action can be identified and politicians, planners and the public can be provided with well-founded information based on the current state of research.
