Office for Educational Support

The Office for Educational Support is the central point of contact for questions relating to financial support for school pupils, students and trainees. Our aim is to facilitate access to education by supporting them in applying for BAföG and other funding programs.

Hands hand each other money

The Wiesbaden Office for Training Assistance is responsible for implementing the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) for the area of the state capital Wiesbaden. BAföG applications can be submitted not only by students, but also by school pupils.

Local responsibility is determined as follows:

  • for students, usually the student services of the respective university
  • when attending a foreign educational institution, depending on the respective state
  • for pupils at evening high schools, colleges, higher technical colleges and academies, the Office for Educational Support at the district or independent city where the educational institution is located
  • for other unmarried students, the district or the independent city at the place of residence of the parents or the surviving parent.

Otherwise, responsibility is based on the student's place of residence.

The maximum BAföG amount, with the exception of funding for higher technical colleges, academies, universities and corresponding internships, is granted in full as a grant and does not have to be repaid.

Whether the full amount or a partial amount is granted depends on the applicant's income and financial circumstances. Not only on their own income, but in most cases also on the income of their parents and, in the case of married couples, on that of their spouse.

Training grants are paid from the beginning of the month in which the training begins, but at the earliest from the beginning of the month of application. It is advisable to find out about the funding options in your specific case at an early stage and to submit BAföG applications so that they can be processed quickly. An application can only be made in writing. The relevant forms are provided for this purpose.

Personal advice in our Office for Training Assistance and the receipt of applications and documents is only possible during office and service hours.

Further information on BAföG and many other funding opportunities can be found on the page "Ausbildungsförderung", which is linked below.
