Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG)
Students and pupils can receive monthly financial support through BAföG. Various requirements must be met for this, which relate to the respective course, the person applying and their income situation.

Study start-up aid
Students who are enrolling at a university or academy for the first time can apply for study assistance. The prerequisite is that students are under 25 years old and their family receives social benefits.
The start-up grant is a one-off allowance of 1,000 euros and is used to finance expenses that are typically associated with the start of studies (e.g. IT equipment, teaching and learning materials, rent deposit, relocation costs).

KfW student loan
Students who are studying at a state or state-recognized university based in Germany also have the option of taking out a KfW student loan.

Education loan
Students and pupils in advanced stages of their education can receive funding via an educational loan. This is a temporary, low-interest loan that can be obtained alongside or in addition to BAföG.

Vocational training allowance (BAB)
Trainees also have the opportunity to receive funding. BAB is granted for both in-company and external training, as well as for vocational preparation measures (BvB) and training preparation phases of assisted training (AsA).

Upgrading BAföG (AFBG)
Further training for career advancement can also be financially supported. These are, for example, master craftsman courses or comparable courses.

Promotion bonus
In addition to the Upgrading BAföG, you can also apply to the state of Hesse for the upgrading bonus. This is a lump-sum bonus that is paid as subsequent recognition for passing a master craftsman or equivalent examination. If the upgrading BAföG and upgrading bonus are claimed together, the costs of master craftsman training can be completely offset. This means that master craftsman training is generally free of charge for participants at the end.
