Cultural Association-Volksbühne Wiesbaden e.V.

On July 21, 1958, at the instigation of artistically committed Wiesbaden citizens, including Hedwig Schmitt-Maaß, Karl Drebert, Reinhold Jost and Johannes Strelitz, the Volksbühne Wiesbaden was re-founded after the forced break imposed by the National Socialist dictatorship. Similar to the aims of the statutes in force today, they wanted to "... win over wide sections of the population ... for a lively, artistically valuable and popular cultivation of the arts and ... continue to work on clarifying all problems concerning the theater and the cultivation of the arts, to hold lectures and other performances of an artistic nature". The office was initially located in a private apartment in Friedrichstraße. After moving to offices in Langgasse, Bierstädterstraße and Bahnhofstraße, it was finally possible to move into the office in Christian-Zais-Straße.

While the Volksbühne Wiesbaden had 300 members in the first year of its existence, this number increased to over 900 by the time of the general renovation of the Hessisches Staatstheater 's Grosses Haus, but then fell to 450 during the renovation work. In the meantime, the number of members has fallen to 375.

Until 1976, the work of the Volksbühne Wiesbaden was closely linked to the name of Arno Wend (1906-1980), who dedicated himself to the interests of the association with energy and drive. When he died, he left behind a strong and recognized organization, which in 1987 gave itself the name Kulturvereinigung-Volksbühne Wiesbaden e.V. and wanted to document the openness of its work in all directions by accepting the status of an association. In addition to arranging tickets for performances at the Wiesbaden State Theatre, the numerous special events organized on the association's own initiative also serve to strengthen its profile.
