Greek Orthodox Community of St. George Wiesbaden-Mainz
The Greek Orthodox community of Saint George Wiesbaden-Mainz has its spiritual center next to the Oranier Memorial Church in a former cinema, which was converted into a dignified place of worship in 1995.
The interior of the beautifully structured building is decorated with numerous icons; the magnificent iconostasis is particularly noteworthy. The icon of "Maria Tricheiroussa" ("Three-handed Mary") was painted by monks on Mount Athos after the original in the Serbian Athos monastery of Chilandar and has been in the possession of the parish since 1994. It is the only copy in Central Europe. The parish also owns relics of ten well-known saints and a piece of the cross of Christ. The location of the church near the Kalle-Albert industrial park is due to the fact that many parishioners were employed here. Until the church was built, the congregation enjoyed hospitality in the neighboring Oranier Memorial Church and then in the Luther Church.
The Greek Orthodox parish of St. George in Wiesbaden-Mainz has around 3,000 members. It extends to Koblenz, Limburg and Rüsselsheim and belongs to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Germany and the Exarchate of Central Europe.
