Caritas Association Wiesbaden-Rheingau-Taunus e.V.

In 1947, the Wiesbaden Caritas Association was founded as a non-profit organization with facilities such as the Hospice of the Holy Spirit, St. Joseph's Hospital, three youth homes, five homes for the elderly and ten nursing wards. In the mid-1950s, Caritas work was given new impetus by Director Karl-Wilhelm Bruno (1926-2007). In 1958, he stepped up cooperation with the parishes, organized career-promoting lectures and introduced care for the deaf and blind in addition to family care. Child and youth welfare became an important area of work.

As a result of the 1969/70 home debate, the youth homes changed from being purely residential homes to more therapeutic facilities. At the end of the 1980s, the Wiesbaden Caritas Association ran into financial difficulties, as allocations from the state, city and diocese stagnated despite rising costs. Following the restructuring of the association in 1988-91, youth and elderly care were organized for the first time in the form of limited liability companies in order to meet the constantly changing requirements. In 2007, the Wiesbaden-Rheingau-Taunus Caritas Association was created through a merger.
