Guidelines for the design of special uses in public spaces

Public space belongs to everyone. However, private and commercial interests dominate the appearance of city centers in particular. The directive sets clear rules to preserve the character and quality of central public spaces.

People stroll through the city center, stores display their wares.

Challenge: Overloading the public space

In many city centers, excessive use by tradespeople is leading to visual and functional congestion. Merchandise displays, advertising stands and catering furniture are increasingly detracting from the quality of public spaces.

This impairs both the use and the atmosphere.

The administration is required to consider applications under the principle of equal treatment - the guideline creates the basis for this.

Goal: Uniform and high-quality cityscape

The aim of the guideline is to adapt the design of the public space to the established cityscape. The city center should:

  • Reflect the historical character of Wiesbaden.
  • Provide space for citizens as the center of urban society.
  • Promote a harmonious and functional design.
