The Wiesbaden pedestrian zone - a lively urban space

The pedestrian zone in Wiesbaden is the heart of the city center. It connects central shopping streets, historic squares and important public facilities. Thousands of people meet here every day - to shop, work, stroll or relax.

A zone for everyone - with challenges

The pedestrian zone is a diverse place: business people, residents, visitors and street artists use it in different ways. This lively mix brings challenges with it. The high pressure of use requires continuous adaptation and maintenance in order to make the space attractive and functional for everyone.

Continuous further development and refurbishment

The pedestrian zone was extensively redesigned between 2004 and 2011 - with public participation and an urban planning competition as the basis. But a city center never stands still: The city of Wiesbaden is constantly working on improvements. As part of the "Refit pedestrian zone" redevelopment program, areas of the city centre are regularly maintained and renovated. For example, diseased trees are replaced or benches that are getting on in years are repaired. The city will continue to maintain the pedestrian zone in the future and adapt it to people's needs.
