Access to the archive's construction files

Building construction files are stored in the building inspection archive. If there is a legitimate interest, it is possible to inspect building files and obtain (digital) copies. Applications to inspect files are made online and are subject to a fee.

If there is a legitimate interest , it is possible to inspect the construction file of completed processes. The construction files contain, among other things, building permits, statics, floor plans and other construction plans, drawings and documents relating to the construction project.

For data protection reasons, building files may only be viewed by owners or persons authorized by them.

The inspection of files is subject to a fee.

Online application for access to files

The application for file inspection is made digitally, the necessary documents for legitimization must be uploaded directly in the application process.

Please also read the notes and information further down on this page.

Note

Documents on buildings built before 1945 were largely destroyed during the war, so that only limited documents are available here.
Historical documents that could possibly be used as a substitute for the desired information may be available at the Wiesbaden City Archive.

Notes and information

Proof of legitimate interest

For data protection reasons, building files may generally only be viewed by owners or persons authorized by them. This must be proven in a suitable form. A mere interest in purchasing the property is not usually sufficient; interested parties require a corresponding power of attorney from the owner.

The following documents must be enclosed with the application to inspect the files:

  • Identity card or passport of the owner or the authorized representative
  • Proof of ownership: extract from the land register (not older than six months) or property tax assessment notice, alternatively a notarized purchase contract (if the property was only recently acquired)
  • If applicable, power of attorney from the owner with the name of the authorized representative
  • Extract from the commercial register for companies and corporations

Please understand that we cannot grant you access to the files without the relevant proof and identification.

What happens after you have submitted an application for access to files?

First, your request is checked and recorded. Then the files - if they are not yet available in digital form or have not yet been digitized - are sent for digitization. As soon as the documents have been digitized, they will be made available to you electronically. You will receive an e-mail with a link to the "NextCloud" platform. The digital construction file can then be accessed directly via "NextCloud" - no program needs to be installed for this, the data transfer is secure.
You then have access to the relevant files for 30 days and can copy, print and share them digitally.

In exceptional cases, it is still possible to inspect files on the premises of the building inspection archive. However, these files can also only be viewed digitally.

Costs of file inspection

The inspection of files is subject to a fee.

We charge an administrative fee of 50 euros for the inspection of files. For separate statics and monument protection files in connection with the inspection of files, a surcharge of 25 euros is levied in each case. Sending the digital file costs between 20 and 200 euros, depending on its size. In individual cases, this amount may also be exceeded.

You will receive a separate invoice - also via "NextCloud". You must retrieve or download this accordingly.
