Bülowplatz and Sedanplatz

The Kesselbach was brought to the surface in two other squares in the densely built-up Westend: On Bülowplatz and Sedanplatz.

As part of the "Bäche ans Licht" project, both squares are being completely redesigned under the leadership of the Parks Department. In several workshops, ideas were developed together with local residents and incorporated into the further planning.

Sedanplatz has had various functions over the course of its history. The play and recreation area in the 1930s and 1950s was followed by an unadorned green space with no amenities after the increase in traffic and the expansion of the Ringstrasse. During the coronavirus pandemic, the gastronomic use as a "Kiezgarten" was very popular in the summer months. As part of the redesign, the Kesselbach stream, which crosses underground at Sedanplatz, will be brought "into the light" in the form of a fountain. The stream water, which flows into a flow ring, is to be made visually and acoustically perceptible as a flowing element. The edge of the fountain of the inwardly lowered basin invites people to sit down, while gastronomic use remains possible. The square will be reopened in 2025.

A little further to the northwest, between Seerobenstraße, Bülowstraße and Roonstraße, is a small area densely planted with old trees - Bülowplatz. Here, too, the Kesselbach is to be made visible again as part of the redesign. In order to protect the old trees, the Kesselbach will be led along the edge of the square for over 30 meters into a channel that runs above the tree roots and widens in some places. It closes off the green area of the square from the Seerobenstrasse sidewalk. On the square itself, the old paving will be removed and a green micro-oasis created, which will have a positive microclimatic impact on its immediate surroundings.
