Single parent - All about childcare
Wiesbaden has a wide range of childcare facilities for children of all ages, which is constantly being expanded to meet the growing demand.
Even if you are not (currently) working, external childcare offers relief in everyday life and also contributes to the positive development of your child through the care of trained professionals, the wide range of support options and contact with peers, for example in a daycare center. In Wiesbaden, a broad network of childcare options for children of all ages has been developed by various providers and is constantly being expanded due to the great demand.

different offers in the schools or daycare centers. All-day school offers, childcare provided by support associations as part of the "Pact for the Afternoon", elementary school childcare, after-school care at daycare centers.
Integration of children with disabilities in daycare centers and schools
Even with a disability, in many cases your child can be integrated into a daycare center close to home or with the support of mobile services and specialists.
Childcare until school entry
Daycare centers and kindergartens - Registration and admission
Children up to school age have a legal right to a place in a daycare center or with a childminder. Due to the high demand for childcare places, you can register your child in several facilities at an early stage via the WiKITA electronic pre-registration system. Single parents may be given preferential consideration for the admission of their child. You can obtain help and advice on choosing a suitable place from the childcare advice service.
Daycare facilities run by self-organized parents' associations
Alternatively, if you are interested in a self-organized childcare facility, you can find information and advice here.
Child day care
In addition to childcare in permanent facilities, you can also have your child looked after by qualified and trained childminders. A special offer of child day care in Wiesbaden is the Kinderbrücke, a supplementary offer by other cooperation partners such as playgroups, sponsor groups and others. In addition, a good networking and substitution system ensures care security.
Information, advice and placement (also for childminders) is provided by the Office for Social Work - Childminding Meeting Point.
Care fees
The childcare costs in the above-mentioned facilities (parental fees) vary and must therefore be requested directly from the facilities. The last two years of kindergarten before starting school are generally free of charge for half-day care. You may be entitled to a subsidy for the childcare costs.
Babysitter
Short-term or hourly care is offered by babysitters and corresponding agencies.
Support in emergency situations
An emergency situation can quickly arise if, for example, you suddenly fall ill or are unable to look after your child at short notice for other reasons. Organizational and financial issues often need to be clarified very quickly.
Childcare during the school vacations, vacation program
For children of all ages, the child and youth work providers and the Office for Social Work/Youth Work offer an extensive vacation program during the Hessian school vacations. With the Wiesbaden Freizeitkarte you receive discounts on many offers.
Care for school children
Especially if your child is younger, you can make use of the childcare services currently available at 34 primary and special schools in Wiesbaden. Schools, school support associations and independent providers offer a wide range of (small) group and support programs before and after school, such as "Starterclub" and AGs, and qualified specialists are also available to answer questions, for example about the transition to secondary school. During the school vacations, a vacation program is also integrated (outside the three-week closure period). The offers are structured differently at the individual schools and range from an all-day offer at the schools, the childcare elementary school to special afternoon offers (Pact in the Afternoon). Important: Participation in these offers is subject to registration and a fee. Parents can apply for a subsidy under certain conditions.
Homework supervision
For children who do not take advantage of after-school care, various institutions and providers such as children's, youth and district centers, church communities or the schools themselves offer support with homework (student help, homework help). It is best to enquire directly at your child's school to find out which services are available locally. You can find an overview of the services offered by the municipal children's, youth and district centers here.
