Settlement Eigenheim
The Eigenheim estate is located in the Sonnenberg district between Idsteiner Straße and Tennelbachtal. In 1903, the "Wiesbadener Baugenossenschaft Eigenheim eGmbH" was founded, in which those wishing to build - members of the middle classes - joined together to realize the construction of the single-family homes at low cost. They chose Franz M. Fabry from Wiesbaden as their architect and construction manager. The inauguration of the Eigenheim estate took place in October 1904 at the Hotel Bahnholz.
The design of the first 25 houses on the Eigenheim estate on Forststrasse, Eigenheimstrasse, Eintrachtstrasse and Tennelbachstrasse was characterized by practicality and restrained façade decoration as well as the use of traditional, regional building materials and roof shapes, and was already committed to the idea of protecting local heritage. From 1910, the Eigenheim estate was extended for the first time, so that by 1913 there were already 44 houses. Further expansion of the estate, which was largely spared from war damage, only began again in the 1950s, namely on Eichenwald-, upper Eigenheim- and Prinz-Nikolas-Strasse and in the lower section of Am Eichelgarten. In the immediate vicinity of the Eigenheim estate, but not part of it, a housing estate was built in the same period on the other side of Idsteiner Strasse with blocks of flats for the officers of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which was inaugurated in 1953 and expanded again in the 1970s.
The last major expansion of the Eigenheim estate began in 1979, when the street Am Eichelgarten was extended to Kettelerstraße and both were built on with detached houses and villas in the 1980s and 1990s.
