Hermann, Albert

Master stonemason, local historian

born: 13.02.1880 in Wiesbaden

died: 06.01.1954 in Wiesbaden

Herrmann was a stonemason and owner of a workshop for gravestone art in Wiesbaden, which he had taken over from his father and which still exists today on Platter Straße.

Due to his close professional connection to the graves, he began to study the lives and work of important and well-known personalities who had found their final resting place in one of Wiesbaden's cemeteries. In 1928, he published his research in the book "Gräber berühmter und im öffentlichen Leben bekanntgewordener Personen auf den Wiesbadener Friedhöfen". In it, Hermmann mentions graves that have long since been forgotten and were located in the old cemetery at Römertor, the old cemetery on Platter Straße, the northern cemetery, the Jewish cemetery at Schöne Aussicht, the Jewish cemetery on Platter Straße and the Klarenthal cemetery.

The book is of particular importance today due to the description of the graves in the Old Cemetery, as numerous graves were lost here when the cemetery was converted into a leisure park in the 1970s.

Herrmann was also a long-standing member of the Verein für Nassauische Altertumskunde und Geschichtsforschung. He also chaired the Schubertbund for many years.
