With a green TÜV sticker, it is essential to undergo a general inspection

The Office for Road Traffic and City Police asks all vehicle owners to make sure that the TÜV sticker on the vehicle's license plate is still valid.

If the TÜV sticker on the vehicle is green, then the TÜV has been expired for at least three months and the vehicle urgently needs a general inspection - either at a specialist workshop or a technical inspection center (e.g. DEKRA, GTÜ or KÜS). During their checks, city police officers are currently still seeing a large number of vehicles with a green TÜV sticker from 2024.

The purpose of the main vehicle inspection (HU) is to detect defects in the vehicle so that they can be repaired professionally. If you drive a vehicle without a valid MOT sticker, you run the risk of damage remaining undetected and endangering others.

Incidentally, an expired TÜV sticker can not only lead to a warning with costs and points in Flensburg, but also to a restriction or even loss of insurance cover. In the event of a self-inflicted accident with an expired MOT, the car insurance company will pay for the damage caused by third parties. However, the insurance company can call in an expert opinion to check whether the vehicle was in perfect technical condition at the time of the accident. In the worst case scenario, the driver may have to pay back at least part of the amount of the damage to the insurance company.

The color of the sticker indicates the year in which the vehicle must undergo a general inspection. Green stands for 2024, orange for 2025, blue for 2026 and yellow for 2027. The color of the sticker changes every year, the two-digit number in the middle indicates the year in which the next general inspection is due. The number at the top of the sticker indicates the month.
