Information services for the banks of the Rhine and Main
Ten new information boards on the Rhine and Main will soon be showing exciting facts about the riverbank. Digital extras are available via QR code - for example a live stream from a stork's nest.
The Wiesbaden riverside is diverse. Extensive natural areas line up alongside the village-like towns of Kostheim and Schierstein and the urban-looking Biebrich. While Kastel played a major role in defending Mainz with its redoubt, Amöneburg is still characterized today by its location as an industrial area. The element that connects everything is the Rhine. The new information boards pick up on these special features and invite visitors to discover the area in a new way.
A special focus is placed on the interactive design of the boards. In addition to interesting facts and clear illustrations, there will be special areas for children that encourage learning and discovery through playful elements. The boards will be supplemented by QR codes that provide digital content such as audio and video clips and thus appeal to other senses.
The first digital content is already available: A stork camera in Wiesbaden-Schierstein provides fascinating insights into the life of storks.
The idea for the project came about as part of the Rhein.Main.Ufer concept. Citizens had the opportunity to submit their wishes in the fall of 2024. The information boards will be installed this year. The project is funded by the RhineMain Regional Park.
