Regional park entrée at the Kostheim observation tower
The area around the observation tower at the Mainhafen is to become more attractive. New seating will invite people to linger in future.
Significance of the observation tower
The observation tower at Mainhafen was built in 2011. It marks the entrance to the regional park in the city of Wiesbaden. Two important routes meet here:
- The 190 km long Regional Park Circular Route, which leads around Frankfurt and begins at the confluence of the Main and Rhine rivers
- The Leinpfad regional park route, which runs from Wiesbaden to the Rheingau.
Planned upgrade
In order to make this important interface and the observation tower even more attractive, we are planning to upgrade the area around the observation tower.
- New seating will invite visitors to linger.
- Children can play on a climbing frame.
- A nature-oriented design will create a natural environment on the banks of the Main.
- New trees will provide additional shade in future.
- In the summer months, a kiosk could supplement the offer.
Implementation of the planning
We created an initial draft in 2021. The planning was financed by the RhineMain Regional Park, the state of Hesse and Fraport AG.
The concept is now being further developed before construction begins. Additional funding is available for this.
