Zoo
The Fasanerie Wiesbaden is more than just a zoo - it is an ark park that protects endangered domestic and farm animal breeds. Visitors can experience near-natural animal husbandry, sustainable breeding programs and exciting educational offers. A place where biodiversity comes alive and nature conservation can be experienced at first hand.
The Fasanerie Wiesbaden is more than just a zoo - it is a living center for the preservation of endangered domestic and farm animal breeds as well as native wild animals. As one of three Ark Parks in Hesse, the Fasanerie focuses on species-appropriate husbandry and sustainable breeding of rare animals. Visitors can not only observe impressive wild animals such as wolves, foxes and bears, but also get to know endangered domestic animal breeds, including Poitou donkeys, Tauernschecken goats and Pomeranian geese.
The pheasantry places particular emphasis on keeping the animals close to nature. Spacious, structured enclosures allow the animals to behave as naturally as possible, while targeted breeding programs contribute to the preservation of genetic diversity. Some breeds, such as the Welsh Blacknose sheep, are bred according to strict herdbook guidelines and also contribute to animal-assisted education. Thanks to its close cooperation with the Taunus Ark Region, the pheasantry is also able to utilize valuable synergies in conservation breeding and educational work.
The zoo also pursues a strong educational concept: in guided tours, the wool workshop and interactive programs, visitors learn how valuable old livestock breeds are for our ecosystem and what role they have played historically. For children in particular, direct contact with the animals offers an unforgettable experience that teaches them about biodiversity and sustainable agriculture in a fun way. The Fasanerie thus stands for active nature conservation and responsible animal husbandry - a combination that makes the park a special place for nature and animal lovers.
