Species-appropriate, near-natural home for the otters at the Fasanerie

The modernized enclosure offers a special animal experience with new perspectives - underwater panes provide a view of diving otters and wooden walkways offer views of the entire enclosure.

Otter

The otter is an endangered and strictly protected species in Germany. Keeping these fascinating animals is therefore a project close to the pheasantry's heart. In order to contribute to the conservation of the species, the pheasantry is hoping for future offspring of the young couple "Otto" and "Frieda".

The new enclosure offers visitors completely new perspectives for viewing the otter enclosure. Thanks to a wooden walkway, the entire enclosure can be viewed from above and the underwater panes below provide an unusual view of the otters swimming and diving.

Thanks to the Friends of the Pheasantry, who helped design and fully finance the new enclosure, and thanks to the team at the Pheasantry, who actively helped with the construction, a completely new experience has been created, where visitors can also learn a lot about the natural behavior of animals under water.

In front of the enclosure, a small oasis with a curved watercourse, native plants and a black alder in the center invites visitors to linger and play by the water.
