Pheasantry Wiesbaden
European wildcat (felis silvestris silvestris)
The European wildcat is shy and a true forest dweller. With its bushy tail and dark stripes, it is well camouflaged. This rare wild animal can be observed up close in the pheasantry.
The European wildcat looks similar to a domestic cat, but is a true wild animal species. It has a dense, sand-colored coat with dark stripes and a bushy tail with a black tip. These shy hunters live mainly in forests and are usually only active at dusk. The wildcat has become rare in Germany, but conservation projects are helping to preserve its habitat.
Two European wildcats live in the pheasantry.
Their names are Olaf and Mathilda.
