Freudenberg Castle
The architect Paul Schultze-Naumburg built the palace in 1904/1905 for the painter Pitcairn-Knowles and the Frenchwoman Marie Eugénie Victoire Guérinet in the neoclassical style. On the north-east side, the building has a large flight of steps leading to the three main entrances.
On a square floor plan, the rooms are spread over four floors and an area of 1,600 square meters.
Since 1993, the city of Wiesbaden has leased Freudenberg Castle to the "Gesellschaft Natur & Kunst" for a symbolic rent. This has set up the "Field of Experience for Experiencing the Senses and Thinking", where visitors can "conquer the world by touch".
On October 14, 2008, representatives of the state capital of Wiesbaden, the Gesellschaft Natur und Kunst e. V. and the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz signed the foundation deed establishing the "DenkmalStiftung Schloss Freudenberg". This will provide long-term support for the preservation of Freudenberg Castle as a historical monument. The annual income from the Monument Foundation, a kind of "care insurance" for the monument, can be used to support conservation measures at the castle.
