The Kaiser-Friedrich-Platz

In its earlier form, Kaiser-Friedrich-Platz was surrounded by four neoclassical buildings. The northern part of today's square between the wings of the Nassauer Hof is still reminiscent of the former beauty of Kaiser-Friedrich-Platz.

In contrast, the southern part of the square has been disfigured in its layout and by the overly dominant construction of the "Vier Jahreszeiten" apartment building. It is partly due to the change in the old urban layout that the square appears relatively deserted today. The focal point of the square is the bronze monument erected for the emperor who reigned for 99 days. Schiller's bronze bust, which had stood on the area formerly known as Theaterplatz since 1866, had to make way for its erection.

While the bust was moved to the schoolyard of the Oberrealschule on Zietenring in 1905, the statue of the emperor was placed on the massive pedestal of the Schiller bust, which had been left standing.

Magnificent historicist house facades give the west side of the square a special look.
