Bowling Green

The "Bowling Green" is the horseshoe-shaped lawn surrounded by the theater and fountain colonnade and the Kurhaus, whose name is derived from the English game of bowls.

Originally, the area was lined with acacia trees, followed by plane trees in 1817. For decades, the area was planted with clover, until garden director Carl Friedrich Thelemann designed it as a park in 1855. The two three-tiered cascading fountains designed by Theodor Goetz date back to 1856 and were restored as part of the redesign of the grounds, which was completed in 2006.

The construction of an underground car park, the planting of new plane trees and the renewal of the lawn were also part of the redesign of the bowling green.
