2011
In January, the memorial to the murdered Jews of Wiesbaden on the Michelsberg is presented to the public at the site of the former synagogue.
2010
Various important urban development projects are launched, including a development plan that provides for the revitalization of the district south of Gerichtsstrasse. In the area of the Schlachthof cultural event center, which is in need of renovation, a decision is made in favour of a new building and the renovation of the water tower. Another important decision is the decision to relocate the European headquarters of the US Army from Heidelberg to Erbenheim.
2009
At the end of September, the Villa Clementine House of Literature reopens after several years of renovation. On an open day and at other events, numerous visitors listen to readings by authors such as Peter Stamm, Urs Widmer and Hanns-Josef Ortheil and to oriental tales by storyteller Jusuf Naoum.
Following the withdrawal of Barclays Bank from the financing of the planned coal-fired power plant on the Ingelheimer Aue, a report commissioned by the state capital of Wiesbaden concludes in October that a coal-fired power plant is unnecessary from an energy perspective.
On November 1, 2009, the popular CDU politician and long-time head of the city council Angelika Thiels succumbs to cancer.
2008
The "LuisenForum" on Schwalbacher Strasse and Dotzheimer Strasse opens in September. After three years of construction, the conversion into a multi-storey shopping center with a spacious covered atrium is complete. In the Kirchgasse area, the pedestrian zone is given a large, bubbling "water feature", which is illuminated after dark and creates an atmospheric ambience.
2007
The Kurhaus celebrates its 100th anniversary for several days in May. The highlight is a ceremony attended by 750 guests of honor, who enjoy the original Imperial menu from the opening evening in 1907. For three days in October, the state capital of Wiesbaden hosts the German-Russian government consultations, the so-called "Petersburg Dialogue".
2006
On May 19, 2006, the "Parkgarage Kurhaus, Casino/Staatstheater" is put into operation after a construction period of exactly 15 months.
2005
The redesign of Mauritiusplatz with its spring fountain and water jets is completed. Excavation work begins for the construction of the new Bowling Green underground parking garage in front of the Kurhaus.
2004
Following an ideas competition, the redesign of the pedestrian zone is tackled and the Schlossplatz between the town hall and the state parliament is renovated. The former Wiesbaden grand hotel "Rose" on Kranzplatz has served as the "new government headquarters" of the Hessian state government since its conversion and restoration. After 16 months of renovation, the main railway station also presents itself in new splendor.
2003
The Aukammtal thermal baths are reopened after a two-year renovation and refurbishment phase. The "Wiesbadener Bürgerstiftung" (Wiesbaden Citizens' Foundation) is launched, which aims to contribute to improving the quality of life of people in Wiesbaden with beautification projects and charitable project ideas.
2002
In August, the "Memorial Room for the Victims of National Socialist Tyranny" is opened in the town hall.
2001
The elevated bridge on Michelsberg, which was opened to traffic on October 18, 1971, is demolished.
1996
The "White House of Wiesbaden", the Söhnlein Villa built in 1904, is handed over to the state of Hesse by the Americans on April 1.
1994
Citizen consultation on the structural use and design of the Dern site.
1993
The Americans evacuate Camp Pieri and Lindsay Air Station.
1991
The "Unter den Eichen" memorial site is inaugurated on November 9. It commemorates the former satellite camp of the Hinzert concentration camp.
1985
In April, the redesigned Luisenplatz is opened to the public, creating a new urban accent: The construction of an underground parking garage means that it will no longer be used as a parking lot.
1982
After around six years of construction, the new municipal clinics on the Freudenberg are opened on October 18; they are named Dr. Horst Schmidt Clinics after the Hessian Minister of Social Affairs, who died in an accident in 1976.
1979
Wiesbaden receives a gold medal in the "Urban design and monument protection in urban development" competition.
1977
Auringen, Breckenheim, Delkenheim, Medenbach, Naurod and Nordenstadt are incorporated into Wiesbaden on January 1.
1974
With the start of the redevelopment of the Bergkirchen district, the development plans of the 1960s, which provided for large-scale demolition of historic buildings, including in the so-called "City East", have been finally rejected.
1970
On April 2, the German Clinic for Diagnostics opens in Aukammtal.
1969
Faulbrunnenstrasse forms the first section of Wiesbaden's pedestrian zone; with its provisional completion, the Schlossplatz Festival is celebrated for the first time on September 14, 1974.
1968
On September 1, Wiesbaden becomes the first German city to set up "bus lanes" that are closed to general traffic.
1964
ZDF - Second German Television - moves its broadcasting operations from an initial temporary location in Eschborn to Wiesbaden; the broadcasting center remains here until the move to ZDF's actual headquarters in Mainz at the end of November 1984.
1962
The "double bridging" over the Rhine by the Schierstein and Weisenau bridges is celebrated.
1960 to 1970
The Gräselberg, Klarenthal and Schelmengraben high-rise housing estates are built.
1957
The first hall of the Rhein-Main-Hallen is opened.
1956
The administrative building of the Federal Statistical Office is completed on Gustav-Stresemann-Ring, built according to plans by Paul Schaeffer-Heyrothsberge.
1953
The Federal Criminal Police Office, founded in 1951, moves into its new building on the Geisberg; it is the first federal authority to take up residence in Wiesbaden.
1949
Reopening of the casino.
1948/1949
Wiesbaden-Erbenheim was one of the eight supply airports that supplied West Berlin with vital goods during the Soviet blockade from June 24, 1948 to May 12, 1949.
1945
General Eisenhower announces the founding of the state of Greater Hesse on September 19; Wiesbaden becomes the capital of Greater Hesse on October 12, and later the state capital of the state of Hesse.
1945
By order of the American military government on July 25, the Mainz suburbs of Amöneburg, Kastel and Kostheim on the right bank of the Rhine are incorporated into the urban district of Wiesbaden.
1945
The democratic new beginning also begins in Wiesbaden.
