U.S. General F. H. Smith
On May 2, 1961, the commander of the American Air Force in Europe, General F. H. Smith, signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden on the occasion of the opening of the German-American Friendship Week.
The opening ceremony of the German-American Friendship Week began on May 2, 1961 in the ballroom of the town hall with Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18 No. 4 in C minor.
This was followed by speeches from Lord Mayor Buch and the Commander-in-Chief of the American Air Force in Europe, General F. H. Smith.
Both focused on the good German-American relations and reminded the audience of their mutual responsibility.
The General then signed the city's Golden Book before the ceremony ended with Mozart's Fighter Quartet.
