Vogel, Christian Daniel
Vogel, Christian Daniel
Protestant pastor, regional historian
Born: 20.01.1789 in Neuhütte (Dillenburg district)
Died: 29.07.1852 in Kirberg
Vogel began studying theology at the high school in Herborn in 1807, which he had to interrupt as he was due to be drafted into the army in 1809. Only by raising a large sum of money was his father able to find a replacement for the service. As a result, the family no longer had the means to finance their eldest son's studies. Vogel only returned to Herborn in 1812 and passed his exams in July of the same year.
After his ordination in June 1813, he took up a position as vicar and was appointed pastor of Liebenscheid in 1813. Further pastorates in Marienberg (1815) and Schönbach (1823) followed before he took up his last pastorate in Kirberg in 1831, where he was appointed dean in 1838. In addition to his work as a pastor, Vogel acted as school inspector for the parish of Kirberg from 1842 and also for the Limburg district from 1849. In 1850, he founded the Association for the Protestant Church in the Duchy of Nassau together with the Wiesbaden city pastor Ludwig Eibach, which was dedicated to ecclesiastical and charitable tasks.
Vogel was also passionately involved in researching the history of the region. He was a member of the Verein für Nassauische Altertumskunde und Geschichtsforschung, of which he was a member of the board for many years. His main scientific work, the "Description of the Duchy of Nassau", includes works on numerous aspects of Nassau's regional history.
