Theater scene, free
In addition to the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Wiesbaden's theater scene is enriched by numerous private institutions. These include the thalhaus, the Velvets, the former Residenztheater and the Pariser Hoftheater, as well as other ensembles and improvisational theaters.
In addition to a broad stage program, the Galli-Theater, founded in 2007, offers so-called health and prevention theater and the opportunity to actively introduce interested people to acting. The Kammerspiele Wiesbaden was founded in 2009 by experienced actors and maintains a venue for smaller theater groups in the Bergkirchen district. Socio-critical plays are performed in an intimate setting. Since 2005, Künstlerhaus 43 in Obere Webergasse, a 19th century workers' house, has provided the backdrop for interactive theater dinner evenings or self-staged plays ranging from "Romeo and Juliet" to "Faust" or stories by Edgar Allen Poe to their own creations such as "Napoleon in Nassau" or "Goethe in Wiesbaden". In 2001, the school theater center was founded in the Kohlheckschule, which supports Wiesbaden schools with theater projects.
There are also several improvisational theaters in Wiesbaden, such as "Subito!", "Für Garderobe keine Haftung" and "Die Clown Doktoren", which began in 1993 in the Helios Dr. Horst Schmidt Clinics to make ward rounds in the children's ward more colorful and cheeky with costumed performances. In 2009, the concept was extended to facilities for senior citizens in the region.
The independent theater scene is complemented by amateur theaters such as the "Scheunentheater Igstadt", the "Theater Lunel" and the "Theatergesellschaft Lohengrin".
