Writer

born: 10.10.1892 in Frankfurt am Main

died: 10.01.1977 in Neckargemünd

Stückrath-Stawitz grew up in Breithardt, where her father worked as a doctor for many years. In 1912, she married the teacher and researcher Otto Stückrath, whose companion and assistant she became. During their honeymoon, they recorded everything they found worth recording in terms of customs and traditions, games, rhymes and songs.

After the collapse of the monarchy, Stückrath-Stawitz joined the SPD in 1919. Together with Emilie Scheffler (1878-1960), the wife of the first SPD mayor of Biebrich, Johann Georg Scheffler, she campaigned for women's rights in general and for the rights of housemaids in particular. During the Nazi era, she was subjected to reprisals and her husband was arrested several times.

The Stückrath-Stawitz couple lived in their house in Biebrich again after the war. Stückrath-Stawitz supported her husband in his life's work. She earned great merit through her involvement in the creation of the "Hessisches Lesewerk" for schools. She herself made a name for herself with numerous publications. Her books "Mutterlieder", "Bäumchen rüttel dich und schüttel dich", "Bubenköpfe und Mädchenzöpfe", "Germanische Göttersagen" and "Hessischer Sagenquell" were aimed particularly at children and young people.
