After training as a painter from 1920-22, he obtained his master's degree at the Wiesbaden School of Arts and Crafts in 1931. In 1941-45, he was imprisoned in Dachau concentration camp as an opponent of the regime and subsequently drafted into military service.
After the end of the war, he took on the role of District Master Craftsman for the districts of Wiesbaden, Rheingau and Untertaunus and carried out the organizational reconstruction of the Chamber of Crafts for the administrative district of Wiesbaden. From 1945, he was head of the Wiesbaden Chamber of Crafts for over 30 years, initially on a temporary basis. He was also one of the founders of the Deutscher Handwerkskammertag and the Zentralverband des Deutschen Handwerks after the end of the Second World War. In 1950, he founded the Hessischer Handwerkstag, which he presided over as Executive President for over 25 years. He also rendered outstanding services in the area of direct support for skilled crafts businesses by developing a broad-based business advisory system and founding a credit guarantee association.
In 1978, the Wiesbaden Vocational Training and Technology Center on Brunhildenstrasse was named after him in his memory. In 1974, Schöppler was awarded the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal of the State of Hesse and in 1975 the Grand Cross of Merit with Star.
