Richard Wagner plant

From the beginning of the 20th century, the two independent towns of Biebrich and Wiesbaden grew together, and a continuous development of villas developed along Biebricher Allee. Biebrich acquired the large Mosbacher Sandgrube, which stretched to the left and right of the avenue, in order to develop it.

At the end of September 1906, the magistrate decided to design the western area of the sand pit according to the plans of garden inspector Hermann Lippel from Mannheim with a monument to the last reigning Duke of Nassau, Adolph zu Nassau, a 30,000m2 park and an area of villas in the countryside. The complex was financed by a foundation set up by Major Richard Kolb. What was originally intended as a building site for a Wagner opera house for the town of Biebrich now became a park with a fairground, children's playground and three lawn tennis courts.

Due to its location opposite the Henkell & Co. sparkling wine cellars, the park is now also known as "Henkell Park". Various events are held here every year.
