Kolb, Richard
Officer, Author, Collector
born: 30.04.1840 in Weilburg
died: 17.12.1909 in Wiesbaden
After attending the Weilburg grammar school and the Selektenschule in Frankfurt am Main, Kolb entered the Nassau military school as a cadet in 1857 and became a lieutenant in the Nassau artillery in 1860. After his participation in the war of 1866, Kolb transferred to Prussian service, took part in the war of 1870/71 against France, was discharged as a major and battalion commander in 1886 and from then on lived in Wiesbaden.
Kolb rendered outstanding services to Wiesbaden above all with his initiative to erect the Nassau State Monument on the Biebricher Höhe. The bequest of his extensive and valuable collection on the Nassau military to the Association for Nassau Antiquities and Historical Research, of which he was a long-standing board member, is another of Kolb's lasting achievements. His estate is now part of the Nassau Antiquities Collection.
Kolb's most important work is "Unter Nassaus Fahnen. History of the Duchy of Nassau Officer Corps 1803-1866". Kolb was buried in the Old Cemetery.
