Orangery Aukamm

The municipal spa gardens were transferred from Viktoriastrasse to the Aukamm district in Bierstadt and handed over to the spa administration in the summer of 1902. The most striking building is the orangery.

The free-standing brick building was designed by Felix Genzmer with gabled half-timbering in the style of English country houses. Red brick and light-colored plaster cover most of the façade. The crippled hipped roof with five gables on the prestigious south side is also noteworthy. The high proportion of windows on the south side and the advantages of the mixed construction helped the greenhouse to achieve a balanced climate.

In September 2004, the site of the former Wiesbaden municipal nursery, which now covers around 2.5 hectares, was taken over by a subsidiary of the non-profit association for the disabled in Wiesbaden Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis e.V., the non-profit Schulungs-, Service- und Dienstleistungsgesellschaft mbH. With the support of the City of Wiesbaden, the Hesse State Welfare Association and Aktion Mensch, the building was restored and the surrounding area redesigned.

Today, the former palm house houses a store and a café, and the orangery also offers space for cultural events. Children have the opportunity to discover nature in themed gardens and a school garden.
