In 1808, Nauendorf was transferred from Prussian service as a captain and initially served in the ducal court service, then in the Nassau general staff. In 1817 he became lieutenant colonel and wing adjutant to the duke and in 1830 commander of the 2nd Nassau Infantry Regiment before transferring to the general staff as a general in 1840. From 1837 he was also head of the military school (cadet school).
In 1806 he took part in the campaign against Napoleon as a Prussian officer and fought as a major against Napoleon's army at Waterloo in 1815. In 1831-32 (as representative of the Count of Leiningen-Westerburg), 1833-39 (as representative of Prince zu Wied) and 1842 (as representative of Prince Moritz zu Nassau), Nauendorf was a member of the First Chamber of the Nassau House of Representatives. He was buried in the Old Cemetery.
